A private developer in Emaar's district
Dubai Marina is Emaar's master-planned waterfront community, built around a 3.5-kilometre man-made canal. The district is mostly apartments, from studios to four-bedroom units and penthouses, with a few podium villas inside some towers. Diamond Investments LLC built this tower inside that frame, so it comes with the canal setting.
With over 200 residential towers, the Marina is a district where most apartments offer waterfront or skyline views. Which side of the 20 storeys your home faces matters as much as the floor.
What is inside
Inside the building you find a gym and a swimming pool for residents. A steam room finishes a day that started with either. A play area for children covers the rest.
The building has landscaped gardens, which is a rare patch of green in a district with few parks. A reception desk serves residents. Security and CCTV cover the building, so a late arrival ends at a desk.
Maintenance services are provided at the building, which suits a stay of a few weeks, when a small repair is the one thing that can undo a calm routine. A pharmacy sits within the building or its podium, so a headache or a sunburn does not send you across the Marina.
One bedroom or two
A one-bedroom is the right size for a couple on a longer break, with the living room doing the work of a second space. If one of you is on a call while the other sleeps late, a bedroom door and a living room give you two rooms to split. A two-bedroom gives a family of four a door each for the adults and the children. Two friends who want their own rooms fit the same layout, and either way the pool and the steam room are shared rather than split. Nothing here is a studio and nothing has three bedrooms, so you are choosing between two clear sizes.
What to weigh before you book
It suits you less if you travel as a group of five or more, because the top size is two bedrooms. It suits you less if you want a quiet district: peak-hour traffic around the main exits, tight visitor parking on weekend evenings and tourist crowds in the busy season come with the Marina. Which side faces the water is worth settling before you book, since a Marina view is part of what the district offers.

Landing and the ride in
Land at Dubai International (DXB) and take one taxi to the tower. Uber and Careem cover the Marina well, and RTA street taxis are easy to flag along Marina Walk and outside the mall, though waits stretch a little on weekend evenings. Parking for residents is part of the building, so a hire car has a home once you arrive. Visitor parking is available but tight at peak hours, and public parking is limited in many parts of the Marina, especially near the waterfront and promenade, which is the quiet argument for the tram on a busy evening.
Rails, ferries and the car
Two Dubai Metro Red Line stations serve Dubai Marina: Sobha Realty and DMCC. The Dubai Tram runs along Al Sufouh Road and Jumeirah Beach Road, and you reach the stations on foot or by tram, with a quick taxi from the far towers when the walk is long. RTA bus routes connect to Ibn Battuta and Mall of the Emirates. RTA water taxis cross the canal from Dubai Marina Mall and Marina Walk. Ferry route FR4 reaches Palm Jumeirah and Atlantis.
Marina roads fill up on weekends and public holidays, and again during school hours. Marina Walk and the surrounding streets get crowded at peak hours, for pedestrians as well as cars. Those are the hours to ride a tram or stay in the gardens.
Beach, bridge and wheel
You can walk across The Walk, a promenade of restaurants, cafes and shops, to reach the shoreline, and beach access is free. A retail complex built on the sand at JBR has four plazas, parking and about seventy shops and restaurants. JBR Beach is the livelier beach, with water sports. Marina Beach is quieter. Beach clubs such as Zero Gravity and Barasti operate along the Marina and JBR waterfront.
Ain Dubai is a 250 metre wheel. It stands on Bluewaters Island. A pedestrian bridge links the island to JBR.
When the heat wins
Dubai Marina Mall covers 150,000 sqm of retail and entertainment space, with high-street brands and restaurants, a supermarket and a pharmacy under one roof, which makes it the answer to a hot afternoon.
The canal before the towers
Dubai Marina began taking shape in 2003, and the Dubai Tram opened on 12 November 2014, which is why the Marina and JBR now read as one walkable strip.
Dinner on the water
A seven-floor dining complex over the water and a zip line from JBR to the Marina Mall terrace are among the attractions around the Marina. Marina Walk is a beachfront promenade with restaurants and shops along it. Buddha-Bar and the Address hotel offer dining with marina views. Later, the nightlife mixes rooftop lounges with beachfront clubs, among them Jetty Lounge and Atelier M.
Groceries and a pharmacy at home
Dubai Marina has grocery stores of every size, from large supermarkets to small neighbourhood shops, so the first shop never needs planning. Waitrose has a branch inside Dubai Marina Mall. Spinneys and Al Maya are other options in the area.
Cafes or restaurants share the site with the apartments, which covers the first coffee. Beyond the lobby, The Scene and The Coffee Club are for breakfast, and Seven Hot Pot Marina and Doner Market serve casual meals around the mall and the Walk.
Parks, doctors and the school run
Dubai Marina has few parks, so the Marina Walk and promenade take the place of green space for jogging and cycling. The promenade runs for about seven kilometres. More than 600 boats and yachts are moored along it.
Medcare Medical Centre and Emirates Hospitals Clinic are in the Marina, while Al Zahra Hospital and Saudi German Hospital in Al Barsha are nearby for anything larger.
No schools sit inside Dubai Marina, so the school run is a 10 to 20 minute drive each way. Emirates International School Meadows and Dubai British School Jumeirah Park are among the schools named nearby, and International School of Choueifat is in Al Sufouh. For a short stay none of this matters. For a term it matters a great deal.
