At 12 storeys the tower sits among over 200 residential towers in a district built around a man-made canal. Most of those towers offer waterfront or skyline views, so the side your home faces matters as much as the floor number. Dubai Marina sits off Sheikh Zayed Road (E11), with JBR and the beach on its western edge and JLT along the east.
The first 48 hours
Land at Dubai International (DXB) and take one taxi to the tower. Uber and Careem cover the Marina well, and RTA street taxis are easy to flag along Marina Walk and outside the mall, though waits stretch a little on weekend evenings. The building has a reception desk for the day you arrive. Security and CCTV cover it after dark.
Supermarkets and banks cluster toward the east end of the Marina, with pharmacies among them. Waitrose is the easy first shop. Dubai Marina Mall includes a branch. Cafes or restaurants share the site with the apartments, so your first coffee needs no walk at all.
The first evening can stay on foot. The Marina Walk promenade runs along the water for about seven kilometres, with people strolling and jogging along it. On the second morning the beach is the outing, because JBR Beach is the closest beach to the Marina. It is often reachable by tram or a short walk, with water sports and sunbathing.
Studio to penthouse
A studio is the sensible pick for one person who wants a base and little else. The one-bedroom adds a closed door, which matters when one of you works late. Two bedrooms let two couples split the cost of a longer break, and three bedrooms suit parents with older children who want a door of their own. The penthouses sit above the rest of the range, and they are the ones to look at when a group of friends wants a single address with room to move.
Who uses what
Many Marina buildings have pools and gyms, with concierge services and direct access to the Marina Walk. That makes the spa and the sauna the details worth weighing here. The swimming pool and the jacuzzi suit a couple on a short break, and the sauna and the spa finish the evening.
Children have a play area, and a residents' lounge or function room gives a family a place to gather.
A gym inside the building keeps a working week on schedule, and maintenance services are provided at the building if a fault interrupts it. F45 and The Marina Gym are the other options in the district. You can also run or cycle along the promenade. Gyms in the district offer personal training and group classes, with 24-hour access.
For a month the routine matters more than the view. The gym covers the mornings and the swimming pool the afternoons, while the lounge or function room gives a remote worker a change from the living room and the cafes on site cover the midday break.
Before the tower
Emaar designed and built Dubai Marina around a man-made canal. The district began taking shape in 2003. The Dubai Tram opened in November 2014. That timeline explains why a tower here can sit within reach of both a boat and a train.
Green space and the school run
Mediclinic and the Dubai Marina Walk Clinic are within reach of the Marina. Saudi German Hospital in Al Barsha is the nearby hospital named for emergencies.
Dubai Marina has nurseries for young children but no major K-12 schools inside it, so older children travel to nearby areas. Blossom Marina nursery sits on the Marina Promenade in Beauport Tower and follows the British EYFS framework. Odyssey Nursery JBR and Toddler Town British Nursery are among the nurseries in JBR. Raffles Early Childhood Centre on Dubai Marina Walk follows the EYFS framework for children from 45 days old.
Dubai Marina has few parks where pets can roam freely, which makes it a built-up high-rise district. Playgrounds are dotted through the district, and one grass strip on the way to the Zero Gravity beach club allows dogs on a lead.
Sand, water and dinner
The Marina Walk has more than 600 boats and yachts moored along it. A seven-floor dining complex over the water and a zip line from JBR to the Marina Mall terrace are among the attractions around the Marina. Ain Dubai is a 250 metre observation wheel. It stands on Bluewaters Island, across the water from the JBR beachfront.
District 8 serves modern international cuisine, while Fresh Fish Restaurant and Bob's Fish and Chips cover seafood. Marina Walk is a beachfront promenade. Restaurants and shops line it. Mama Zonia and City Social are among the places to eat in Dubai Marina. Attiko and Be Beach are two more.
JBR Beach is the closest beach to the Marina and can be reached by tram or on foot. Beach clubs such as Zero Gravity and Barasti operate along the Marina and JBR waterfront.
Getting around
Two Red Line stations sit on the edge of Dubai Marina: Sobha Realty Metro Station, formerly Dubai Marina Metro Station, and DMCC Metro Station. The tram has 11 stations serving the Marina and JBR, and it connects to the metro at DMCC station.
RTA water taxis cross the canal from Dubai Marina Mall and from Marina Walk. The ferry route FR4 runs from Marina Mall to Palm Jumeirah and Atlantis.
It takes about six minutes to reach Sheikh Zayed Road (E11) from within the Marina. Media City and Internet City are five to ten minutes from the Marina. Downtown Dubai is 25 to 30 minutes away by car. Marina roads fill up on weekends and public holidays, and again during school hours, so parking in the building matters on those days.
What to weigh before you book
It suits you less if you want a quiet street. Peak-hour traffic around the main exits and tight visitor parking on weekend evenings come with the Marina, and so do tourist crowds in the busy season. Parking for residents is part of the building. That helps with a hire car.
